Active Ganjifa Artists & Workshops

Babita Basavaraj is a Mysore-based artist specialising in Mysore Ganjifa and traditional hand-painted playing cards. Her practice combines Ganjifa iconography, miniature brushwork, natural colours and gold leaf with related Mysore painting and surface techniques.

Banamali Mahapatra is an artisan from Raghurajpur, Odisha, known for creating traditional hand-painted Ganjifa playing card decks.

Raghupathi Bhat is a Ganjifa artist in Mysore and a National Award-winning artist known for his efforts to revive the tradition. He oversaw a 2024–25 training programme for local artisans, producing Dashavatar Ganjifa cards and applying the painting tradition to other craft objects.

Sawantwadi Lacquerwares was established in 1971 by Rajesaheb Lt. Col. Shivram Sawant Bhonsle and Rajmata Satvashiladevi Bhonsle to revive Ganjifa and lacquerware in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra. The workshop operates from Sawantwadi Palace and produces hand-painted Ganjifa cards and other lacquerware products under the continuing patronage of the Sawant Bhonsle family. Sital Fouzdar is an Indian artisan and painter from Bishnupur, West Bengal, who handcrafts Dashabatar Ganjifa cards in the family tradition. According to the Daricha Foundation, he claims to be the 87th generation of Fouzdar artisans to make these cards.
