Comic designs by Arne Leihberg promoting the recycling of waste glass.

Contrary to what we may sometimes imagine, the recycling of waste material has been going on for decades. In this instance, the waste material is glass. The German illustrator and caricaturist Arne Leihberg (1934-1999) created this pack for an information centre funded by the German glass industry (IZG) promoting – amongst other things – recycling. The caricature-style courts carry messages in German across the centre of each card about the re-use or recycling of glass. Further messages are conveyed on the aces, each of which depicts a large glass jar, bottle or decanter. The manufacturer’s name can be found on the 7 of Diamonds. On the reverse is the slogan ‘Altglas ist Rohstoff’, which means ‘Waste glass is a raw material’.
