Why Does My Cat Do That? is an illustrated guide to questions cat owners ask. It is one of Davidson’s earlier books on feline behaviour.

Cats Rule the Earth Tarot is a 78-card tarot and guidebook set published by Abrams in 2022. Its guidebook is written by Catherine Davidson, a Brighton, England-based author of illustrated cat books including Why Does My Cat Do That?, on feline psychology and behaviour; Brazilian artist Thiago Corrêa illustrates the cards. Working digitally on an iPad with an Apple Pencil, Corrêa uses Procreate and Photoshop. The guidebook notes that the original deck has one cat, at the Queen of Wands’s feet. Corrêa replaces its figures with cats across the sequence. WIRED writes that the “traditional depictions are expertly updated here.”

Davidson’s earlier cat writing includes Cats: A Guide to Cat Breeds and Their Fascinating History, on feline breeds and history. Davidson has been reading tarot for 20 years and has written on meditation, mindfulness and dreamwork. Her accompanying 80-page guidebook opens by calling cats and tarot “perfect companions”, both attuned to meanings and perspectives that may be hidden. It gives upright and reversed meanings for the cards, then asks readers to consider how they work together in a spread. One of its four layouts is the five-card Cat’s Paw, which asks whether the reader is directing their energy usefully. It places a foundation card below four others, arranged as a cat’s paw.
