Dieux & déesses du rock
Rock icons reimagined as gods and goddesses, with colourful artwork by Vuslat Çamkerten.
Modern rock and pop icons possess a form of cultural omnipresence, ritual devotion, and spectacular grandiosity that makes them the contemporary equivalent of ancient deities. Here, the Turkish illustrator Vuslat Çamkerten has reimagined 54 different rock icons as gods and goddesses with attributes linking them to many different ancient cultures (Greek, Roman, Persian, Aztec, Irish, Egyptian, Scandinavian, etc.). The suits are divided as follows: D = Rock ‘n’ Roll; C = Alternative Rock; H = Pop Rock; S = Hard Rock. Each strikingly colourful design is set against a black background, so the black suit-signs have been printed in yellow. The extensive booklet with text by Jenner Smith pairs each design with biographical details in French. See the slipcase
Examples include Elvis Presley as Zeus, Tina Turner as Ra, Bob Dylan as Hermes, Freddie Mercury as Venus, Elton John as Hera, Sting as Pan, Taylor Swift as Artemis, Amy Winehouse as Persephone, and David Bowie as Janus.
