Thackeray Gallery
Promoting 40th year exhibitions by different artists at London’s Thackeray Gallery.
London’s Thackeray Gallery was founded in 1968 by Priscilla Anderson to promote the work of living British artists. For the gallery’s 40th anniversary in 2008, this pack was issued featuring the work of 16 different artists (including Victoria Crowe and Alberto Morrocco), some of whom were scheduled to have solo exhibitions at the gallery during that year. The suit-signs are slightly modified in shape from the ones usually found on Carta Mundi packs. All the indices are in black. The jokers include the name of the gallery, while an extra card has a list of all the 40th year exhibitions, with dates. The backs simply state the name of the gallery and the date it was established in rose pink on a grey background.

In 1977 he joined the newly formed playing-card department at Stanley Gibbons in London before setting up his own business in Edinburgh four years later. His collecting interests include playing cards, postcards, stamps (especially playing cards on stamps) and sugar wrappers. He is a Past President of the Scottish Philatelic Society, a former Chairman of the IPCS, a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards and Curator of the WCMPC’s collection of playing cards. He lives near Toulouse in France.
