Alexander Boman (est. 1830, Stockholm) evolved from a maker of standard French-pattern playing cards into an important commercial printing house keeping apace with technical innovations and the increasing sophistication of playing-card manufacture during the second half of the century. He advertised premium opaque and gilt-edged playing cards. Boman's simultaneous expansion into railway and theatre tickets, commercial forms and paperboard manufacture underscore this broader transformation into a modern industrial printer. Exhibition medals were awarded at Stockholm (1866), Vienna (1873) and Paris (1878).
