Real Fábrica de Macharaviaya
The Royal Playing Card Factory of Macharaviaya (Málaga) was founded in 1776 by José de Gálvez, minister for the Indies under Carlos III. Run until 1806 by Félix Solesio, it held a monopoly supplying cards to Spain’s American colonies, a privilege retained until 1811, though the factory continued operating until 1821.
