Tilgmann

F. Tilgmann was founded in Helsinki in 1869 by the German-born lithographer Ferdinand Tilgmann (1838–1911). Trained as both an artist and printer, he established a reputation for high-quality lithographic printing, producing maps, illustrated books, postcards and commercial printing, also becoming noted for map engraving, postage stationery, securities and other precision technical work. Incorporated as Aktiebolaget F. Tilgmann, the company expanded rapidly at the turn of the twentieth century, investing in new technologies including photo-mechanical reproduction and offset printing. Products ranged from art reproductions and advertising material to packaging, labels and playing cards.
