When Cádiz card manufacturers adopted a production model they chose the "national pattern" previously produced at the Royal Factory of Madrid and exported from Málaga. They called this the "Andalusian pattern". Gradually they introduced subtle changes that lent the cards a distinctive identity which became widely established and imitated overseas. Cádiz's advantageous position for overseas maritime trade encouraged local card makers to open a significant market for their products in America and the Philippines.
