Slovak Season Playing Cards (Dvouhlavé Hrací Karty)
Slovakian edition of the Wilhelm Tell pattern found on a day trip to Bratislava.
This 32-card double-headed deck with traditional German suits (Hearts, Acorns, Leaves and Bells) was produced by the Slovak playing card manufacturer Lauko Promotion s.r.o. The company continued the production and know-how of Menox CZ s.r.o., which it had acquired in 2011. Although the main offices and distribution are now located in the Czech Republic, production and sales remain in Slovakia.
The design directly derives from the Austria-Hungarian Wilhelm Tell pattern originally issued by Piatnik, but exhibits several visual distinctions. Colours are rendered in a more vibrant, flattened, and simplified manner, with reduced shading and stronger contrasts. Notably, the Unter of Bells (Schelle Unter) has white hair, and pink is frequently used as a dominant accent colour, most strikingly in the Hearts suit. The Heart pip cards alternate between red and pink, a feature typical for Eastern European Tell patterns. Another distinction is the absence of white in the eyes, giving the faces a bolder, more stylized look.
Unlike the Austrian originals, the Slovak edition omits the names of the characters and the seasonal inscriptions that often accompany the Tell figures. The Seven of Bells (Schelle 7) serves as a signature card, carrying the Menox company logo and the Website • See the box
