Belgian/Genoese pattern from Turkey
All-plastic cards of the Belgian/Genoese type, made in Turkey.
Other than cards of the Anglo-American type, the most commonly used playing cards in Turkey are those of the Belgian/Genoese type. They usually have indices in French, as here. These particular cards are all plastic and were made by an Istanbul company, Uğur, founded in 1992 and specialising in plastic products. The cards have grey backgrounds, giving them a metallic look. All the court cards carry the legend “MADE IN TURKEY”, while the maker’s name (Uğur, which means ‘luck’ in Turkish) appears on all the Aces and Jokers. The registration of the colours is not always accurate, as can be seen on one of the Jokers. It is not clear from the company’s website whether these cards are still in production. See the box►
