Kojak bubble gum cards
Bubble gum cards featuring stills – mainly of Telly Savalas – from the cult TV series Kojak.
Telly Savalas (1922-1994) will for ever be associated with the role of the TV detective Kojak. He is featured in almost all of the stills from the series included in this set of bubble gum cards. Apart from the Jokers, the designs are all double-ended. The indices on the court cards are unusual: K for King, D, Q and V for Queen (i.e., in French, English and Dutch), and J and B for Jack (English and Dutch only). The back design is in black on grey which suggests a date of 1978 for this set, there being an earlier set with red backs (1976).
Above: Kojak bubble gum cards published by Monty Gum, Leiden, the Netherlands, 1978. 52 cards + 4 Jokers. Size: 48 x 78 mm.
The name Monty is a reference to Field Marshal Montgomery (“Monty”), the business having been started shortly after the end of World War II.
