Summer Solstice

The red foiled tuck box for Solstice keeps the presentation minimal, with the deck title stamped in foil on the front rather than a fuller graphic design.

Solstice was published by Kings Wild Project as part of Jackson Robinson’s Kings Wild Shorts subscription programme. It is one of Robinson’s seasonal packs, part of the series alongside Equinox, Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice.

In the design livestream, Robinson says that the main element carried over from the Equinox backs was the scale of the “tessellating pattern”, while the Summer Solstice design itself was otherwise started from scratch. The cards were printed by Expert Playing Card Company, while the red tuck case was finished with letterpress work by Clove St. Press of San Diego.

The courts, aces and jokers all use the same geometric design, with bright yellow-and-white colours, concentric motifs and a small-scale repeating pattern in the clothing details. The overall effect is bright and minimalist.
