Jeux de Cartes de la Haute-Marne
Double pack featuring historical figures and local views of the Haute-Marne, to mark its bicentenary as a département.
To mark the bicentenary (1790-1990) of the département of Haute-Marne in north-eastern France, this double pack was issued featuring historical figures associated with the département on one pack and local views in sepia on the other. The named historical figures (which include Voltaire and Diderot) are arranged in suits according to the time period in which they lived. Architectural details adorn the aces. These designs were created by Roger Petitpierre. On the second pack, Guy Salassa’s sepia photographs depict local beauty spots (A), castles (R), towns (D), and villages (V). The cards in both packs have square corners, a deliberate throwback to cards of an earlier period.
“L’ESCARBOUCLE” – repeated many times as part of the back design – is the name of an association in Chaumont which promotes local artistic and cultural activities. The central panel – in gold or silver – has been adapted from the arms of the département.

The informative booklet was the work of Claude Petitpierre.
