The designs are loosely based on those of Heraclio Fournier, Vitoria (Spain). Until around 1940 "Naipes de la Campana" packs were still being produced by P. Munguia e Hijos with square corners, and shortly after this date the company name changed to La Cubana S.A. and packs were produced as shown above.

Simon's first limited edition pack of playing cards was a replica of a seventeenth century traditional English pack, which he produced from woodblocks and stencils.
