Martin Sharp (1942-2013) was an Australian artist who moved to London in 1966 and who began working for the London version of the underground magazine OZ, edited by Richard Neville. His Tarot card designs appeared in poster form on the rear cover of #4 of OZ magazine in June 1967. Most striking are the colours used – black, gold and dayglow pink. The traditional card titles form part of each design, though not always easy to see at first glance. The psychedelic designs include references to William Blake (trump 1), Mary Poppins (trump 2), Timothy Leary (trump 4), Monty Python (trump 10), and Oscar Wilde and Sigmund Freud (trump 11). Unusually, trump 21 is The Fool, while trump 22 is The World. Titles and descriptive meanings appear in small type at the top or bottom of each card, with Martin Sharp’s name located at the foot of trump 22. Nowadays considered rare.
