Murder of Crows Tarot
Corrado Roi’s 2020 tarot pack presents a dark, watchful world of crows and ritual figures.
Above: The Magician, Death and The Moon. The Magician stands with a crow behind him. Death brings a crow and skeletal horseman together, while two crows face each other beneath The Moon.
The High Priestess is surrounded by crows beneath a crescent moon. The Emperor sits between two crows with the symbols of office. The Lovers places a couple beneath a flock of birds.
Murder of Crows Tarot, published by Lo Scarabeo in 2020, is a tarot by Italian comic artist Corrado Roi. The cards use black ink against worn, yellowed grounds. Crows appear among priests, rulers and masked women, alongside the familiar signs of tarot and ritual.
Roi treats each card as a tightly staged image. The publisher describes the crow as “an omen bringer, messenger, and scavenger” that “has no master”. In the Major Arcana, crosses and pentagrams sit beside moons. Armour and horses give the scenes a ritual setting, while crows watch from shoulders, staffs and the edges of the cards. The court cards show rulers facing the reader, with their birds close by as attendants or emblems of office.
The copy reviewed here is incomplete. A couple of cards are missing, and it may be a bootleg. The cards are numbered along the lower edge. See the box .
