Antikriegsspielkarte
Hand- and stencilcolored anti-war playing cards by Siegfried Heilmeier, 1983
Somewhere between when the Cold War had reached its most dangerous climax and simultaneously people's calls for peace grew louder and louder, this Anti-War deck was released.
Above: The Joker depicting a skeletal soldier in a red coat discarding his weapon, reflecting the anti war theme of Siegfried Heilmeier’s 1983 deck.
The centers of three aces are circled by the word peace in five languages (German, Latin, English, French, and Spanish). Queens are peace protesters. Jacks depict soldiers who destroy their weapons and refuse to fight, while the Kings show furious and raging leaders with some already brittle weapons. The suits are customized; the arrangement on the pip cards is as well.
As he did very often, Siegfried Heilmeier included a Joker, even though this is a 32-card deck, where Jokers aren't used for any type of game with it. The back shows a white dove and the CND symbol.
100 decks were produced, all hand- and stencil-colored and numbered on an extra card. Size: 60 x 99 mm
