Postabank 3
Caricatures of German personalities on a promotional pack for a Hungarian commercial bank.
Postabank was a Hungarian commercial bank which was founded in 1988 and which closed in 2004. It is not clear why a Hungarian bank (with, apparently, a representative in Austria but none in Germany) should have wished to issue a pack of cards with caricatures of German personalities (plus one Romanian, Ion Tiriac [AS], and one Austrian, Arnold Schwarzenegger [JS]). Those caricatured include Helmut Kohl (KS), Franz Beckenbauer (KH), Boris Becker (KC) and Steffi Graf (QS). The court cards are double-ended, and the Aces and Jokers single-ended. All are named. The manufacturer’s logo is on the 2 of Clubs.
Above: Postabank 3 promotional playing cards made by Offset- és Játékkártya Nyomda, Budapest, Hungary, c1991. 2 x 52 cards + 3 (identical) Jokers (+ 1 extra card in one pack only) in double tuck box. Size: 57 x 88 mm. An unknown artist's initials can be found on most of the court cards.
