Naipe Vizcaino
‘Naipe Vizcaino’ designed by Javier Urkiri and published by Industrias Gráficas Castuera and the Caja de Ahorros Vizcaína.
A beautiful deck of 40 cards published in 1979 by Industrias Gráficas Castuera and the Caja de Ahorros Vizcaína. The traditional suits have been replaced by the coat of arms of Vizcaya from the cover of the first edition of the Fuero (1528), the cups are silver ballot boxes used for voting in the Señorío councils, a sword from the 15th century with the legend ‘Bilba’ referring to the iron of Bilbao from which these instruments were made and the shepherd’s macilla. The four traditional trades of the Basque people are reflected in the pages or sotas, the knights represent the nobility that were present in the jura de fueros and the kings have been replaced by Señores de Vizcaya.
