Tarot Beirut
A beautiful Arabic Tarot : a mystical tool for positive guidance and well-being.
Lara Alameddine’s vision and Monique Bejjani's artistry have combined to produce this magnificent Lebanese Tarot deck. While staying true to the archetypal structure of the Major and Minor Arcana, the deck incorporates card titles in Arabic calligraphy, with echoes of the Levant region, as well as Ottoman and Persian Empires in the clothing and symbolic elements and exquisite colour schemes, which all conspire to give a very positive feeling. All of this can inspire intuitive and mystical revelations.
The underlying inspiration from the Tarot de Marseille makes the deck both familiar and novel. The multilingual labels in five languages evoke a global consciousness which subtly enhances the experience of using the cards, thereby offering a full spectrum of energies that can be channelled toward emotional healing, contemplative and spiritual wellbeing.
The Arabic and Oriental clothing (from Lebanon, Palestine, Armenia, Egypt, Turkey, and Persia) and visual motifs in the deck shift the Tarot’s usual Eurocentric ethos towards a more mystical and culturally adapted spirituality, not “one-size-fits-all”. Any cultural disconnections due to colonial trauma are healed.
Lara Alameddine is a consultant in Education for the United Nations but has a passion for tarot cards. She first began to study the Camoin-Jodorowsky Marseille tarot deck in 2010. She has since learned how to let the cards speak to her. Monique Bejjani holds a Master’s degree in Graphic Arts and Advertising from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Beirut. Born of the passion of these two women, their perseverance, meticulousness and talent, this beautiful tarot deck has a perceptible mission to “do good.”

I am the founder of The World of Playing Cards (est. 1996), a website dedicated to the history, artistry and cultural significance of playing cards and tarot. Over the years I have researched various areas of the subject, acquired and traded collections and contributed as a committee member of the IPCS and graphics editor of The Playing-Card journal. Having lived in Chile, England, Wales, and now Spain, these experiences have shaped my work and passion for playing cards. Amongst my achievements is producing a limited-edition replica of a 17th-century English pack using woodblocks and stencils—a labour of love. Today, the World of Playing Cards is a global collaborative project, with my son Adam serving as the technical driving force behind its development. His innovative efforts have helped shape the site into the thriving hub it is today. You are warmly invited to become a contributor and share your enthusiasm.
