Advertising Backs by William Detmold Ltd, c.1910-1920s
William Detmold kept boards with the faces printed ready for printing special designs or advertisements on the backs. Some of these would have been printed by other people such as Troedel & Co (Seahorse Schnapps), F.W. Niven & Co (Bartlett’s tea) and Atkinson & Co (Sweetland’s), as they’d have acquired the blank backed cards from Thomas/Detmold and then printed their own ads onto them. Two or four colour courts were used, depending on the budget.
