Molière par Dubout
Characters and scenes from plays by Molière as drawn by the cartoonist Albert Dubout.
Albert Dubout (1905-76) is best known for his caricatures featuring outsize ladies alongside diminutive, puny-looking men. He was also an illustrator of books, including a volume of Molière’s plays. Many of those illustrations, created in 1954, have been used in the formation of this pack. To add to the theatrical look, the indices (in French) are in the upper two corners only, where the stage curtain is pulled back. The name of the play from which each character or scene is taken is given at the foot of each card. The designs were hand coloured by Maurice Beaufumé. On the reverse is a self-portrait of the artist (in caricature). See the box►
