Visite Mexico
Promoting Mexican tourism with 54 different photographs in full colour.
The 54 different full-colour views of Mexico contained in this souvenir pack have bilingual titles (English and Spanish). Some are in vertical format but most are in horizontal format, showing various pre-Columbian, Mayan and Aztec archaeological complexes as well as later Spanish colonial architecture, such as cathedrals. The two jokers show ancient Mesoamerican deities: Tláloc and Huehuetéotl. The accompanying fold-out leaflet and map shows the main tourist spots and ancient cultural sites, such as Acapulco, Chichen Itza and Teotihuacan¹ • see the box
Each card carries a ‘patent pending’ mention (as does the box). Though it is clearly stated that the pack was made in Mexico, there is no sign of a maker’s name.

1. The deck depicts items from two completely distinct cultures, ancient and modern, Aztec monuments alongside Spanish colonial architecture. Yet there is a continuity between the two which this pack encapsulates. Many colonial churches and cathedrals were build on or near the sites of ancient pyramids, even using stones from the destroyed temples. The back design, also shown on the leaflet , features a bold geometric motif inspired by, or adapted from ancient indigenous art. The stylized bird, possibly resembling an eagle or quetzal, is a common theme in Mesoamerican iconography and which exerts an influence on Mexican national identity and modern tourism materials. Furthermore, indigenous traditions and festivals were adapted into Christian holidays and rituals, such as the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) which combines indigenous belief about death and the afterlife with Catholic All Saints' and All Souls' Days.
