Baraja Aragonesa
Celebrating the costumes, architecture, coins and crafts of Aragon in Spain, with designs by Raúl Rodriguez Segurado.
Aragon is an autonomous community comprising three provinces – Huesca, Zaragoza, and Teruel. Its capital is Zaragoza. This very attractive Spanish-suited pack combines traditional Aragonese costumes on the court cards with old coins on the suit of Coins, two-handled ceramic vases from Teruel on the suit of Cups, knives from Sástago on the suit of Swords, and shepherd’s crooks on the suit of Batons. In addition, there are vignettes (mainly of monasteries) on the 4s. All the images are discreetly named. The designer’s name, Raúl Rodriguez Segurado, appears on the 6 of Coins. There are two extra cards depicting St George, patron saint of Aragon, fighting the dragon. These extra cards could be used as Jokers. On the reverse there is a detail from a coffered ceiling in the Palacio Aljaferia in Zaragoza.
Above: Baraja Aragonesa made by Heraclio Fournier, S.A., Vitoria, for the Caja de Ahorros de Zaragoza, Aragón y Rioja, Spain, 1979. 48 cards + 2 extra cards in clear plastic box. Size: 61.5 x 95 mm.
