Karl Gerich No. 25: “Great Mogul”
'Great Mogul' branded playing cards designed and produced by Karl Gerich.
Great Mogul, a 52 card pack plus Joker from c1988. Double-ended courts in oriental costume from a copperplate etching and hand-coloured. The Aces are extremely lively with 'Dos Tigres' derivations on the hearts and spades, a Great Mogul on the clubs, and a young couple on the diamonds. The cards are 54mm x 79mm in an edition of about thirty.
The inclusion of the Great Mogul brand in the pack's name and design adds a sense of elegance, emphasizing the exotic and historical theme of the pack. Through this use of the Great Mogul brand, independent artists such as Karl Gerich have been able to tap into this iconic brand, creating a unique and distinctive aesthetic for their own card designs.
