Englische Karten nr.190
Dondorf Nr.190“Englische Karten”, 1867-1895.
Dondorf’s Nr.190 “Englische Karten” is a variant of the so-called English-American or international card design, or "Internationales Bild für Portugal" made for exportation, and is closely related to Dondorf Nr.194►
Above: Dondorf Nr.190 “Englische Karten”, 1867-1895. Specially designed Ace of Spades (featuring intertwined initials B and D within the spade symbol, surrounded by a black ornamental pattern reminiscent of a tax wrapper and the word "Exportation"). The design was already in Müller's pattern book by 1870 and was said to have been exported to Portugal, among other places. It was offered in various formats, made of triple-layered cardboard and described in the price lists as "of medium quality and made from thick cardboard. Upon request, packs could be delivered with rounded gold corners or with gilt edges.
